Blue­dot fes­ti­val has announced Fam­i­ly Day, tak­ing place on the first full day, Fri­day 22 July 2022. 

Now in its fifth year, blue­dot con­tin­ues to be one of the best fam­i­ly friend­ly fes­ti­vals in the UK. Of course, as the home of Cheshire’s Jodrell Bank Obser­va­to­ry, the team behind the event has put togeth­er top-lev­el sci­ence and space themed sci­ence shows and activ­i­ties plus kids cin­e­ma, inter­ac­tive work­shops, a ded­i­cat­ed Moth­er & Baby space and FREE entry to Jodrell Bank’s Dis­cov­ery Centre.

This year, to cel­e­brate Fam­i­ly Fri­day, blue­dot will also host an excit­ing illus­tra­tion com­pe­ti­tion, giv­ing chil­dren the chance to have their art­work dis­played at the fes­ti­val. School­child­ren across Cheshire, Greater Man­ches­ter and Liv­er­pool will be encour­aged to send in their space illus­tra­tions and the win­ners will be shown on the main stage screens through­out Fam­i­ly Fri­day. One lucky win­ner will also have their draw­ing pro­ject­ed onto the icon­ic Lovell Telescope.

High­lights across Fam­i­ly Fri­day include the incred­i­ble and astro­nom­i­cal Space Shed which returns to blue­dot for 2022, amaz­ing its audi­ence with sto­ries, inter­views and DJ sets from the coun­try’s coolest gar­den shed.

The Actu­al Real­i­ty Arcade, a life-sized inter­ac­tive game zone suit­able for chil­dren of all ages, will bring clas­sic arcade games of the past to life with fam­i­lies play­ing togeth­er for a dose of clas­sic arcade nostalgia.

There are also dance work­shops, dis­cos and parades through­out the week­end. Com­bin­ing both music and sci­ence, on Fri­day, Twist­ed Time Machine will take audi­ences on an inter­ac­tive jour­ney through time and space land­ing in the best music decades from the 1920s through to mod­ern day and beyond.

Jedi Lightsaber Train­ing takes place, make sure you sign up for a mas­ter­class to per­fect those lightsaber skills.

And when it comes to immer­sive arts expe­ri­ences, the Lumi­nar­i­um, a beloved blue­dot favourite, returns with an immer­sive light tun­nel maze expe­ri­ence for explo­ration and play.

Music high­lights on Fam­i­ly Fri­day include Groove Arma­da, Spir­i­tu­al­ized, Kel­ly Lee Owens and Kojey Rad­i­cal, plus the VIP Vil­lage will be host­ed by Dis­trict whilst come­di­an Lol­ly Ade­fope will head up the cul­ture programme.

Over the rest of the fes­ti­val week­end there’s a head­line slot from astro­naut Tim Peake, an appear­ance from CBee­bies favourites Clangers and an inter­ac­tive­science show from Braini­ac Live.

blue­dot 2022 will take place 21–24 July. With children’s day tick­ets start­ing from just £25.00 and under 5’s com­plete­ly free, the fes­ti­val is set to pro­vide one of the best val­ue for mon­ey fam­i­ly days out in Cheshire.
