A new festival bursting with 90s acts is all set for this August Bank Holiday weekend. Called Cool Britannia, the event is suitably set in the old-school festival site of Knebworth Park, and takes us on a journey back in time with a mishmash of Britpop(ish) era bands and dance acts.
If this sounds like your thing, check out the Cool Britannia lineup: The Happy Mondays, Peter Hook and the Light, Dodgy, Toploader, Ocean Colour Scene, The Lightning Seeds and Embrace. Great to see Heather Small appearing too.
For those of a more dancey disposition, Cool Britannia offers the chance to immerse yourself back in the Hacienda days with a Ministry of Sound curated tent with club Djs like Todd Terry and Jazzie B. Artists appearing include K-Klass, Alex P, Black Box, and there are more artists being signed up.
The festival premiers ‘Britpop Classical’ which will feature a full orchestra together with rock band and guest soloists including The Farm’s Peter Hooton, Republica’s Saffron and Heaven 17’s Glenn Gregory, with others to be announced, performing unique versions of Britpop classics.
The festival promises plenty for the whole family, and children get a dedicated ‘kidzone’ area. There’s camping, glamping, street food, themed bard, funfairs and fireworks. Tickets are around £150 with camping; there are still campervan tickets available too at the moment.
Cool Britannia takes place at Knebworth on 31st August to 2nd September.
