Southsea Seafront in Portsmouth sets the scene once more for Victorious festival, 27-29th August. It’s the UK’s biggest metropolitan festival and this year’s lineup features The Streets, Madness and Royal Blood to headline, along with Peter Hook and the Light and Terrorvision.
Also Morcheeba, Seth Lakeman, The Fratellis, Blossoms, Stereo MC’s, Cast are all on the lineup. A big draw is Dublin’s Fontaines DC. NME dubbed their latest album, A Heroes Death, ‘a five-star instant classic’ – and Steve Lamacq is a huge fan too.
Legendary singer-songwriter Richard Ashcroft makes an appearance on Saturday. Ashcroft began his career as the frontman of The Verve whose 1997 album Urban Hymns remains one of the UK’s best-selling albums of all time.
Victorious offers a rare opportunity to see Supergrass who are set to take to the stage on Sunday. The band’s debut album, I Should Coco, was Parlophone Records’ best-selling debut album since The Beatles’ Please Please Me.
Speaking about this year’s festival Andy Marsh, festival director, said: ‘‘This year’s line-up is my personal favourite. It feels like we have achieved an exciting combination of headliners, rising artists, and the return of some family favourites too. We believe there really is something for everyone to enjoy this summer and we can’t wait to welcome you all!’’
Founded in 2011, Victorious has plenty of sleepover options for out-of-towners, including off-site camping. There’s also the popular option of University of Portsmouth accommodation.
