The new single from emerging Leeds band Part-Time Model certainly caught our attention. Cut Off Point exudes a cool, slinky vibe driven by vocalist Lucy Tessier’s husky tones and Charlie Wilberforce’s supple guitar work.

Lucy delivers every lyric with an icy assurance. There’s more than a hint of Courtney Barnett and English Teacher in the shifts into spoken word for emphasis, creating a compelling back-and-forth that keeps you fully engaged. The instrumentation ramps up, subtly gathering momentum and creating tension.

The cut off point of the title is neatly explained by Lucy: “Cut Off Point’ is an extended metaphor for cutting the imaginary umbilical cord between mother and child when you reach adulthood. It’s about grieving childhood and reckoning with a dependency that never really gets cut off, especially when all you’ve known is your parents’ support regardless. As a band, in recent years, we’ve all had to leave home for new cities and leaving our parents behind in the process brought this question to light.”

Part-Time Model are Lucy Tessier (vocals), Rafael Mendes-Browne (bass), Charlie Wilberforce (guitar) and Ben Smith (drums).

The band’s tenacious approach to live and refined musicality saw a sold-out debut headline at Hyde Park Book Club, before going on to sell out venues in Hull, York and Sheffield. Catch the band while you can still see them in an intimate venue:
