Sea Change festival takes over the town of Totnes in south Devon over the August Bank Holiday Weekend. The event finds its way into multiple historic venues in the town.

Founded and curated by Totnes’s own Drift Records, Sea Change presents special guests beneath the beautiful gold leaf ceiling of the Barrel House Ballroom, St. Mary’s Church, 1950s Civic Hall, restored Victorian Totnes Cinema, and two micro-breweries – New Lion and the Totnes Brewing Co. Stages will be curated by the likes of Bella Union, Erased Tapes, The Quietus, Fire Records, Earth Recordings and Moshi Moshi.

This year, will see the festival expanding into the historic 14th-century estate of Dartington. It will host the festival’s new Offshore main stage, hosting music each evening until late. Here’s some info about the Dartington events:

  •
  • New Offshore stage features Hookworms, Bo Ningen & Damo Suzuki, Andrew Weatherall, Virginia Wing, James Holden and the Animal Spirits, Surfing Magazines and Rival Consoles
  • • £25 night-time tickets
  • Line-ups compiled by Bella Union, Erased Tapes, The Quietus, Fire Records, Earth Recordings and Moshi Moshi

Dartington also features the Summersisle restaurant, run by Patrick Hanna, Head Chef of Riverford’s esteemed Field Kitchen, alongside colleague Lizzie Wedderburn. Sea Change 2018 also sees the debut of the new Offshore Pilsner from neighbouring Sharp’s Brewery. A drink they’ve been brewing and perfecting since 2011, Offshore is a pale straw beer with a herbal lemon aroma. This intimate and very modern new festival needed something different and Offshore fitted the bill perfectly.

  • Surfing Magazines, a new garage-rock group consisting of two thirds of The Wave Pictures and one half of Slow Club. Andrew Weatherall, producer, remixer and often cited as one of the World’s finest DJs. A specially commissioned extraordinary live headline collaboration between acclaimed Japanese noise band Bo Ningen and the legendary former CAN vocalist Damo Suzuki.

  • Manchester-based pop band Virginia Wing whose new ‘Ecstatic Arrow’ LP was in the Guardian’s best 2018 albums so far. A major coup for the festival, with five-piece psychedelic rock band Hookworms playing live. Electronic producer James Holden and The Animal Spirits fusing electronics and spiritual jazz and Erased Tapes’ hugely talented producer Rival Consoles completing the night with full visual support throughout.
