If you’re missing festival season, here’s something for Londoners to fill the gap. The city’s alternative festive experience Winterville heads back to Clapham Common from 15th November to 23rd December.
The music lineup has just been announced: Mel C, Norman Jay MBE, Jazzie B, The Cuban Brothers, London Soul Train, DJ Yoda and lots more. Plus residences from Bugged Out, Guilty Pleasures and plenty more.
Street Feast, Backyard Cinema, the Ice Rink, Twisted Wheels Roller Disco, Plonk Golf, the Fairground, Spiegeltentand pop-up pub Bar Humbugall return. New entertainment includes Christmas Labrinth– a huge magical maze from Backyard Cinema, leading to a two-screen cinema in an enchanted forest with a cabaret-themed bar, a hidden tequila bar and surprises along the way.
Aerial sensationalists Chivaree Circus debut their brand-new production CRASH in the Spiegeltent. Spiegelhosts comedy with a special showcase of Rabbit Rabbit Comedy’s favourite comedians including Kerry Godliman, Fin Taylor and Tony Laws.
There will also be a concert from Lambeth Live Explosion, a performance opportunity which invites young local musicians to participate and share their talent
Lucha Britannia return with their Mexican Wrestling extravaganza, as do Mariah & Friendz with their distinctly disturbed take on the holiday season. Rising London festival Mighty Hoopla are putting on a Christmas Jumpergeddon.
There’s lots of children’s entertainment too: they can hop on board a converted double decker bus and experience Bus King Theatre’s magical puppet show What Is That In My Hat?, before heading upstairs for a puppet-making workshop. (And adults can return in the evening for a more risqué puppet show The Disillusioned Illusionist)! Art and science magazine Okido host a number of kids workshops.
Solo Craft Fair sets up shop in a second Spiegeltent every weekend showcasing local artisans selling art, jewellery, ceramics, kids clothing and more, while there’s also a series of themed talks from Funzing.
Tickets to attractions and selected events are available from Tuesday 2nd October. For more information, tickets and opening times head to winterville.co.uk.
