Margate-based electronic artist and producer, Jaime Rosso has announced his debut four-track EP Away – due for release on November 7th via Domino.

He has just released the second number Frames as a single. The track radiates a breezy, coastal energy, no doubt influenced by his Margate background. It’s a soulful piece, driven by slinky bass notes that send a euphoric jolt through your system. Whether you want to chill out or move onto the dancefloor, Frames makes space for both. Intricately layered drum beats weave around Jaime’s soft vocals, synth sounds like wheeling gulls, while the lyrics reflect his first experiences of London nightlife as an outsider, that capture the wonder of being immersed in a new world.

Moving from rural Kent to south London, Away explores the tension between movement and stillness, community and solitude, urban intensity and coastal calm. It was recorded across both locations, using his characterful hardware synthesisers and sample-heavy approach as a way of processing his surroundings. It’s a similar tension as explored by indie folk artist Lael Neale, between home on the farm in Virginia and the anonymity of her new life in Los Angeles.

Says Jaime about the EP: “When you’re leaving something behind – whether it’s a city, a relationship, or a chapter of life – you carry both the rush of possibility and the melancholy of loss. That contrast is at the heart of this EP. I was searching for the sonic meeting point between two homes; what they sounded like, felt like, and symbolised to me.”

He says about his initial clubland experiences: “as a newcomer to the environment, I felt separate, self-aware. I was in awe of the people in the scene who seemed to know the rules inside and out, the characters effortlessly commanding the attention of the room. Casting a spell on the dancefloor, moving under the strobes like the club was built especially for them. Add the haze-filled atmospherics of a midsummer night out, and that image became a memorable one for me. I wrote ‘Frames’ whilst that vision was still spinning around my head.”
