It’s wel­come news to hear of a brand new record label and the prospect of more emerg­ing artists find­ing a foothold in the music industry.

The label in ques­tion is Belfast-based label Con­fused Pan­da Records and they’ve announced their first sign­ing, a young alt‑pop artist from Belfast called Wild Valen­tine. Rather than mar­ket­ing him­self via social media, Wild Valen­tine is instead just con­cen­trat­ing on his mate­r­i­al so there will be no inter­views and self­ies. At a time when artists are expect­ed to be a pro­fes­sion­al brand and encour­aged to share every aspect of their life online, Wild Valen­tine wants the focus to be on the art, not the artist.

His debut sin­gle Elec­tric Eyes, out Aug 13, is a blend of smoky pul­sat­ing synth tex­tures con­trast­ed with appeal­ing­ly soul­ful, warm vocals. The song cap­tures the emo­tion­al ten­sion of being phys­i­cal­ly close to some­one whose heart remains just out of reach. There’s a dark­ness that cuts through the track and it touch­es on dark­ness and long­ing.

Wild Valen­tine is a son­ic sto­ry­teller, his music blends atmos­pher­ic alt-pop with dark­wave tex­tures and max­i­mal­ist elec­tron­ic production.
