A vibrant new single has just been released this week by singer-songwriter and composer Tessa Rose Jackson called Built to Collide. The track is out just before her latest album called The Lighthouse drops on 23rd January.

Tessa calls it her ‘rant song’, which she describes as “A song about accepting that sometimes you live and you don’t learn. It’s human nature to mess up, to sometimes fall into the old mistakes you thought you’d grown out of. This song is my celebration of this and an invitation to slightly poke fun at yourself. Thought you’d know better by now? Well guess what, you don’t! Dust yourself off, have a little laugh and move on.”

Tessa Rose Jackson was raised in Amsterdam and has performed and recorded as ‘Someone’ for many years. It’s only more recently that Someone dissolved into the ether for the artists in question to reveal herself as Tessa Rose Jackson. With The Lighthouse Tessa distills the spirit of innovation she explored as Someone into something rawer and deeply personal. The Lighthouse is an album that doesn’t just reflect her journey, but transforms it into something beautiful.

Tessa Rose Jackson’s Built to Collide is a lovely song with a open, direct and communicative feel. She allows her vocals to shift in a quietly emotional and subtle way, reminiscent of Joni Mitchell. There is a confidence and joyfulness about Tessa, likely born from her journey to where she is now as an artist – uncompromising and reborn, unafraid to show herself. The video for Built to Collide beautifully reflects this: an expressive artist dancing against a myriad of backdrops – the beach, a country road, a cityscape – fully at ease in her own skin.
