Orig­i­nal­ly from Tokyo, Japan, Takuya Naka­mu­ra moved to the Unit­ed States in 1990 to study under the leg­endary jazz the­o­rist and com­pos­er George Rus­sell at the New Eng­land Con­ser­va­to­ry of Music. Under Rus­sel­l’s tute­lage, Naka­mu­ra honed his craft and devel­oped a pro­found under­stand­ing of jazz the­o­ry and com­po­si­tion, which would become fun­da­men­tal to his inno­v­a­tive approach to music.

In 94′ Naka­mu­ra moved to New York City, where he quick­ly became a sta­ple in the vibrant Jazz and Jun­gle scene. His ver­sa­til­i­ty as a musi­cian and DJ allowed him to col­lab­o­rate with an impres­sive array of artists across dif­fer­ent gen­res. Takuya became of mem­bers of cult bands such as Jojo’s May­er’s Nerve and Cocorosie.

He has worked with leg­endary fig­ures such as Quin­cy Jones, David Byrne, and Arto Lind­say, bring­ing his dis­tinc­tive sound to numer­ous record­ings and live performances.

Takuya Naka­mu­ra con­tin­ues to push the bound­aries of music, with recent projects blend­ing his deep jazz roots with cut­ting-edge elec­tron­ic pro­duc­tion. His ded­i­ca­tion to his craft and his abil­i­ty to tran­scend gen­res make him a true pio­neer in con­tem­po­rary music.
