Releasing his first new music in three years, UK musician Joe Hicks channels grief and confusion into the dramatic single Time is a Thief out 29th August.

Having built his profile in the years leading up to his 2022 debut album The Best I Could Do at the Time, Joe Hicks has been praised for his solid songwriting and remarkable vocal skills, hitting falsetto notes with ease.

The track delivers a compelling mix of emotion and energy, anchored by a tight, punchy rhythm section. Joe’s vocals are a standout feature: expressive and open, and able to add a sense of warmth and sincerity that elevates the song. What makes it especially effective is its feel-good vibe, which seems almost tailor-made for a live performance. You can easily imagine the track sparking real energy from an audience when performed on stage.

Living in Bristol in early 2024, Joe was going through a lengthy breakup, while also dealing with the loss of his father. He worked hard not to give up with music and channelled his emotions into his songwriting and the result is the emotionally charged new single Time is a Thief.

Says Joe: ‘Time is a Thief was a song that when I had finished the lyrics it revealed to me how I was truly feeling at the time, being in a mindset that everything was both pointless and meaningless. It showed me the stages of grief I’d been going through since losing my Dad, where I was currently at, and also how that experience had shaped my outlook on life.

There is more new music to come from Joe later in the year.
