in 2015 Nadine Khouri played at a festival local to me called The End. I wrote: “Khouri’s compositions are beautifully crafted, sophisticated and precise, overlaid with her soft, smokey vocals.”

Those vocals and her ability to create haunting compositions can be heard on new single “Song of A Caged Bird”, out now. Nadine’s steady and warming alto giving this sensitive track a mesmerising glow. As always with Nadine’s tracks, there’s something magnetic about her stillness that takes you into a calm space. There is also a mini UK tour starting now, details below.

Currently based between London and Marseille, Nadine is influenced by dream-pop, film soundtracks and poetry with a sound that has been described as “music born of perennial outsider-status.”

There is an exclusive live version of the track recorded for Rough Trade Transmissions at Karma Studios, London

Originally penned as a lament on surveillance capitalism, “Song of a Caged Bird” took on new meaning during the pandemic when the world outside fell away. Over walking-pace percussion and spaciously layered Mellotron and guitar, Khouri dreams beyond the digital walls into an exploration of true freedom.
