The Copenhagen-based duo 100%WET unveiled a euphoric single earlier this year titled Over Me, offering a glimpse into their distinctive, genre-blending sound. Their debut album, arriving on May 16th, features nine tracks that showcase their expansive, atmospheric style, sharpened by drum’n’bass rhythms and experimental pop elements. It’s an unconventional mix, but one that creates a compelling, otherworldly experience. Members Jakob Birch and Casper Munns have coined their sound hypergaze—a fitting term for their singular approach.

The album opens with Lost Myself, a strong introduction to their sonic identity. It begins with a simple strummed guitar motif that gradually gives way to a lush synth-driven soundscape, with melancholic female vocals woven into the mix. The initial guitar theme lingers in the background, anchoring the track and bringing it full circle. Next comes Ether, which builds on the dreamy, danceable vibe with a steady motorik beat and layers of hazy, textured sound with a shoegazey atmosphere. Re-Emerging recalls the mood of Beach House, blending a woozy feel with submerged vocal layers.

The track that pushes the boundaries perhaps more than others is final track Warmblooded which takes its time to set in place a gauzy soundscape – a dense summery wash of sound. I didn’t want this dense wash to end. Tracks like Over Me and Leave It – both previous singles – explore emotional themes of heartbreak and self-reflection, all the while maintaining an infectious energy.

Jakob Birch and Casper Munns met at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory (RMC) in Copenhagen and formed 100%WET in 2022. United by a shared interest in blending breakbeat, drum’n’bass, and acid house with grunge and shoegaze-inspired songwriting, the duo crafted a sound that defies categorizsation. They also brought in pop solo artist Polly (Amalie Petri) to add guest vocals, adding a soft, melodic layer to their otherwise dense and electrified sound.
