FORWARDS and Big Team CIC announces the return of its pioneering social initiative Capture FORWARDS, and reveals its collaboration with Sony UK. The initiative offers young photographers the invaluable opportunity to gain experience photographing live events, through practical and theory workshops and a mentorship program with industry professionals.

Participants will receive the best possible tools to develop their skills by using Sony’s state of the art camera equipment throughout the project alongside hands-on experience from Sony imaging ambassadors.

Social initiatives are at the heart of FORWARDS, which is dedicated to creating positive change within the community. Big Team CIC, one of FORWARDS charity partners, opens doors for young people from underrepresented communities or backgrounds to enter the festival, events and creative industries. The ‘Capture FORWARDS’ initiative is a testament to the commitment of both, providing a platform for young, aspiring photographers from underrepresented backgrounds to kick start their careers in the competitive photography industry.

The program prioritises applicants aged 18–30 from three specific underrepresented groups: those from the global majority, female and non binary and low socio economic or working class backgrounds. This is due to the lack of representation across the industry groups. However, all passionate intermediate photographers with a desire to work in live events and music photography are able to apply. Participants will benefit from mentorship, creative skill development, and hands-on work experience that can lead to freelance opportunities.

2022 and 2023, both cohorts have had success as freelancers. Some of the participants have fed directly into Team Love and FORWARDS media teams and some have gone on to work with big name artists and brand organisations. The direct link to the festival industry has had such a positive impact on connection building and access to the music and events industry.
