Aussie band, Sex Mask are releas­ing their new, much antic­i­pat­ed EP Raid on 14th August, via Unpop­u­lar records. The trio have so far pro­ject­ed an adept shape-shift­ing approach to music-mak­ing, fol­low­ing the angu­lar, jumpy, Gang of Four by way of The Strokes How to Be Cool At Par­ties – and brood­ing, soupy Circe. Their 2025 EP Body Bro­ker nailed the band’s chameleon-like expres­sive­ness with noughties indie recall Cold all the way through to the moody clos­er Dirt. This time Sex Mask are adopt­ing a more synth-led approach. Their new release sees the band dou­ble down on their blend of high adren­a­line, decep­tive­ly com­plex gui­tar lines, mus­cu­lar drums and snarled vocals.

Title track Raid wastes no time in get­ting down with a throb­bing bass line, com­pelling, raw ener­gy and an in-your-face inten­si­ty that recalls Fat Dog. Sex Mask are known for explo­sive live sets and this is sweaty mosh pit mate­r­i­al writ large. 

With sup­port­ing slots for Fat White Fam­i­ly, Sleaford Mods and Radio Free Alice amongst oth­ers, Sex Mask have man­aged to break though into new ter­ri­to­ry. They also fea­tured in the NME 100 (who pre­vi­ous­ly dubbed them “Australia’s next big export) as well as appear­ing on cov­ers and earn­ing praise from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit and So Young.

Fol­low­ing their last EP, they played a packed-out head­line show at Lon­don’s The Lex­ing­ton, and have appeared at SXSW and Dot To Dot, and this year will play End Of The Road fes­ti­val, Pitch­fork Paris, Reeper­bahn and many more.
