Glasgow musicians Kim Grant of Raveloe and Simon Liddell of Olympic Swimmers / Frightened Rabbit have formed a new collaborative project called Dovetailed. And their new number called Kethers features drumming and guitar from Jonny Scott (Chvrches)

Dovetailed’s sound is given its fullness by Kim’s rich vocals that suffuse the track with a shimmery, dream pop vibe, together with soothing, rippling guitars that recall Slowdive. The bridge takes the listener into a further realm with what features what sound like woozy bagpipes. The duo’s other track available to stream is Kitchen, another beautifully delicate and atmospheric number.

Kim had this to say about Kethers: “After the opening line acknowledges a change and a growth the rest of the track is something like a patchwork of memory, a reflection on what’s been. The ‘it feels purple’ line is actually about when I had to get anaesthesia as a child and I remember it was like all my senses became the colour purple. The song itself is probably our most live-band-sounding song. It was a lot of fun laying the layers of overdriven guitar in the bridge, where myself, Simon and Jonny all had a go at putting down a riff and ended up keeping them all in.”

Kethers is released as part of Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service in the month of July, as well as via streaming services, it’s the latest taste of the duo’s debut EP. Released on limited-edition cassette in May, it features two tape-exclusive tracks, together with the band’s debut single ‘Kitchen
