There’s a lot of music out there designed to bring down the heart rate, still the breath­ing, calm the soul and send you to a pleas­ant and nour­ish­ing place. There is one artist, an eccen­tric, car­ing and exot­ic being, who has made work which def­i­nite­ly has this effect: Alabaster dePlume, poet per­former has pre­vi­ous form with this. And the artist has a new dou­ble A side sin­gle out now, tak­en from the new album Gold, avail­able April 1. 

The new work called Mrs Cala­mari b/w Who is a Fool has just been released. It is a woozy and won­der­ful mean­der­ing jazz tune with a vin­tage feel, and most def­i­nite­ly in relax mode. Think mid­sum­mer, a gar­den full of dozy bees get­ting drunk on nec­tar. This is the sound of Mr DePlume. The video, below, her­alds the direc­to­r­i­al debut of Dan “Dana­logue” Leavers from UK electro/jazz mono­liths The Comet Is Com­ing, shot on 8mm film.

Maan­cun­ian born Angus Fair­bairn aka Alabaster dePlume pro­duced a beau­ti­ful and rather opti­mistic sound­ing album last year called To Cy & Lee: Instru­men­tals Vol. 1, reviewed here Music to Heal the Soul. It was designed to help the men­tal health of two men he worked with. 

The song is part of an album to be released called Gold pro­duced by Lost Map Records part­nered with Chica­go label Inter­na­tion­al Anthem and the Total Refresh­ment Cen­tre in Lon­don. GOLD is a ten­der record cel­e­brat­ing the spir­it of being uncon­ven­tion­al, con­sist­ing of 18 vocal and instru­men­tal pieces that move between jazz, mod­ern-clas­si­cal and electronica. 

A launch show for GOLD will take place at the Vil­lage Under­ground in  Lon­don on Sun­day, May 1. Full tour list here:
