There’s a lot of music out there designed to bring down the heart rate, still the breathing, calm the soul and send you to a pleasant and nourishing place. There is one artist, an eccentric, caring and exotic being, who has made work which definitely has this effect: Alabaster dePlume, poet performer has previous form with this. And the artist has a new double A side single out now, taken from the new album Gold, available April 1.
The new work called Mrs Calamari b/w Who is a Fool has just been released. It is a woozy and wonderful meandering jazz tune with a vintage feel, and most definitely in relax mode. Think midsummer, a garden full of dozy bees getting drunk on nectar. This is the sound of Mr DePlume. The video, below, heralds the directorial debut of Dan “Danalogue” Leavers from UK electro/jazz monoliths The Comet Is Coming, shot on 8mm film.
Maancunian born Angus Fairbairn aka Alabaster dePlume produced a beautiful and rather optimistic sounding album last year called To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals Vol. 1, reviewed here Music to Heal the Soul. It was designed to help the mental health of two men he worked with.
The song is part of an album to be released called Gold produced by Lost Map Records partnered with Chicago label International Anthem and the Total Refreshment Centre in London. GOLD is a tender record celebrating the spirit of being unconventional, consisting of 18 vocal and instrumental pieces that move between jazz, modern-classical and electronica.
