Ed Cosens has just released a video for The River, the second single from his debut solo album Fortunes Favour, here it is below.
A long-time lynchpin of the Sheffield music scene, best known as the guitarist and co-songwriter in Reverend & The Makers, Ed waited to make his solo debut until the time felt right. “It’s only taken 10 years or so for me to find the confidence” he has said.
New single The River follows the album’s lead single, entitled If. The new track is a classic ballad with a definite retro vibe and, like on the previous single, a strong Richard Hawley-esque feel to the vocals.
“Sometimes it’s hard to see a situation for what it is when your mind and vision are clouded by love and the hurt love can cause” says Ed about The River.
Fortunes Favour features ten, timeless songs which invite the listener to eavesdrop on life’s crossroads moments and the powerful emotions they evoke. The album took flight after Ed abandoned attempts to decide on a sound and instead let the songs lead the way.
The album was recorded at Giant Wafer Studios in Wales and produced by Ed and Dave Sanderson – aided in the recording room by Milburn’s Joe Carnall and The Crookes’ Adam Crofts.
