The artists on Lost Map Records represent a diverse range of genres but nevertheless are united by their strong creative vision. Base camp is the wild island of Eigg, where the label’s owner, Johnny Lynch, aka Pictish Trail, nurtures and encourages his roster of musicians.
And in this vein, pop and disco trio SDF’s captivating new single European Bar has come into being, a dreamy journey enhanced by the unusual speak/sing vocals and anchored by the sensory thud of the sub bass and a glorious mash of electronic sound. The full length version, all of 10min 55sec, takes the listener along a mystical and dense journey.
“European Bar: a mythic place, an occasionally occurring idealised dream state; a place where we can all come together and Be. You know it when you’re there. A fridge, a sound system, a state of mind. And there’s always a view, forward and back…”.
Forged in the nightclubs of Newcastle and now based around the marshes of north east London, SDF are Adam Parkinson (aka Dane Law) and Oliver Marchant (aka RKB Vitesse) together with quantum physicist Lucy Whalley. Their debut album Judas was released in 2015 on Good Food Tapes, followed by Alana in 2017 via Psykick Dancehall.
European Bar is also uropean Bar by SDF is released as part of Lost Map’s PostMap Club subscription service in the month of February and available to stream and share now, it’s the first taste of brand-new material from the band since their 2022 Lost Map debut album Rhythm of the Rubicon. SDF have been announced for the Kelburn Garden Party Festival at Kelburn Castle in Largs, Scotland on Friday, July 5, with more live dates for 2024 to be announced.
