Synthpop, darkwave band Magnetic Skies have been working on a new single for spring. A Place on Earth is released on Friday 4th April and there are two upcoming shows. The single features Magnetic Skies’ signature vintage synth sound overlaid with vocalist Simon Kent’s dramatic and doomy vocals. There’s also a striking monochromatic video – below.
Magnetic Skies are known for their atmospheric 80s synth-driven post-punk and this new track follows the same path. Says front man Simon Kent: ‘We wanted to create something sharp, urgent, and full of energy – taking inspiration from Bowie’s “Fashion” but making it our own. It’s a song about finding your place in a chaotic world.’

The band’s debut album Empire Falling, released in 2023, a fusion of darkwave and synthpop, is loaded with anthemic, emotional numbers.
Initially setting out as a duo in 2019, Magnetic Skies was born as a studio-based project created by lead vocalist and keys player Simon Kent and Jo Womar also on keys, driven by a shared love of 80s synth-driven post-punk. They use pulsing, vintage analogue synths and pumping bass to create a signature sound of evocative electronica mixed with darkwave. In 2021 the band evolved into a 4‑piece, with the recruitment of guitarist Carlos Aguilar and drummer Lenin Alegria.
